Controversial Nigerian singer, Badmus Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has once again dodged legal trouble—this time escaping re-arrest after being freed from police custody in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The dramatic turn of events came after Fuji icon, Okunola Saheed Osupa, dropped his petition against the singer. Osupa had earlier accused Portable of criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disturbance, and cyberstalking, prompting the Kwara State Police Command to arraign him before an Upper Area Court on Monday.
Portable faced charges under various laws, including the Penal Code, Cybercrimes Act 2015, and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2020.
The accusations stemmed from an Instagram live session on March 19, 2025, where Portable allegedly made defamatory remarks about Osupa, accusing him of jealousy and career sabotage.
The court had granted Portable bail of N1 million with two sureties—one of whom had to be a PMAN chairman, and the other a property owner in GRA, Ilorin. However, he failed to meet the bail conditions and was remanded at the federal correctional facility in Oke Kura.
Relief came on Tuesday when Osupa, through his solicitor, filed a notice to withdraw the case. Speaking to The NIGPOST, Osupa’s legal representative said the move was influenced by the intervention of stakeholders in the music industry who urged an out-of-court settlement.
The withdrawal letter urged Portable to desist from making any further defamatory statements or actions that could damage Osupa’s reputation or business.
But that wasn’t the end of the drama.
The Managing Director of Starwood Hotels, Ilorin, Mr. Yemi George, also considered re-arresting Portable over a separate allegation involving a failed performance deal.
According to George, Portable received N6.3 million to perform at the ‘Kwara Tampan Fiesta’ on September 29, 2024, but didn’t show up, sneaking out of his hotel room without fulfilling his obligation.
Despite gathering evidence for legal action, George said he was persuaded by Osupa not to proceed with Portable’s re-arrest—for now.
The petition, jointly signed by the Governor of TAMPAN, Chief Olu Amusan, and Ayodele Demokun of Starwood Hotels, claims that Portable’s no-show caused massive financial losses and emotional distress. They are demanding a full investigation and refund.
This isn’t Portable’s first brush with the law. From assault charges in Ogun State to evading arrest over a G-Wagon debt in May 2024, the singer has had his fair share of legal run-ins.
For now, Portable is free—but how long before another controversy?
