An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has thrown out a legal challenge against the nomination and installation of the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Alao.
Justice K.A. Adedokun delivered the ruling on Monday, stating that the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the matter. The suit, filed by four members of the Akingbola family, contested the selection, appointment, and eventual approval of Oba Alao as the Olugbon.
The judge emphasized that the claimants had no legal standing to institute the case. Additionally, the court found the suit to be fundamentally flawed, as it failed to include the Surulere Local Government— the body legally responsible for initiating the selection and ratification of the traditional ruler.
Oba Francis Alao, whose installation was approved by both the Oyo State Government and relevant traditional institutions, currently serves as the vice chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
With this ruling, the legal challenge against Oba Alao’s kingship has officially been dismissed.
