A 32-year-old American man, identified as Shawn Monper, has been arrested and charged with making assassination threats against former U.S. President Donald Trump and other top government officials.
Monper, who used the disturbing online alias “Mr Satan,” is now facing serious federal charges, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
The FBI reportedly received an emergency alert after Monper posted threatening messages on YouTube. His internet activity was later traced to his home in Butler, Pennsylvania—the same town where Trump narrowly escaped death in a shocking July 2024 campaign rally attack.
According to court documents, Monper had secured a gun license shortly after Trump assumed office and had publicly stated he was stockpiling weapons and ammunition. In one alarming online comment dated February 17, he wrote:
“Nah, we just need to start killing people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way.”
He further described his intention as part of a so-called “American Revolution 2.0,” claiming that those hurt by Trump’s policies would seek revenge.
The threats escalated when, on March 4, during a YouTube livestream titled “Live: Trump’s address to Congress”, Monper openly declared, “I’m going to assassinate him myself,” referring to Trump.
This chilling case comes less than a year after a near-fatal shooting at a Trump rally in Monper’s hometown, where a bullet grazed the former president’s ear and left one person dead with three others injured.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized the government’s commitment to justice in response to such threats.
“Rest assured that whenever and wherever threats of assassination or mass violence occur, this Department of Justice will find, arrest, and prosecute the suspect to the fullest extent of the law.”
A detention hearing for Monper is scheduled for April 14.
