In response to the tragic killing of 16 hunters in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, both the Federal Government and the Edo State Government have jointly launched a fact-finding committee to uncover the truth behind the incident.
Governor Monday Okpebholo disclosed this development during the visit of Kano State’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, to the Government House in Benin City on Thursday.
The high-powered delegation from Kano State came bearing a detailed report compiled by a committee set up by Kano State Governor to identify the victims, survivors, and next-of-kin of those affected by the attack. The report was officially submitted to the Edo State governor.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s concern over the incident, stating that the president is personally invested in uncovering the root cause and ensuring lasting peace across the country.
“This unfortunate incident has opened our eyes. President Tinubu is not happy and wants to ensure justice is served,” Okpebholo said. “The committee we’ve set up with the Federal Government will dig deep into the cause and provide a lasting solution.”
He assured that the public will be kept informed as the investigation progresses, reaffirming Edo State’s reputation as a peaceful and accommodating place for people from across Nigeria.
Deputy Governor Gwarzo appreciated Okpebholo for his earlier visit to Kano and praised his commitment to justice.
“We were tasked with verifying the identities of the deceased and survivors. The victims are from five local government areas in Kano State,” Gwarzo stated. “We trust your leadership and transparency in handling this tragic matter.”
Sixteen lives were lost in the brutal attack, leaving behind grieving families and shocked communities.
Both governments have pledged to work closely to ensure justice is delivered and such incidents are prevented in the future.
