Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has welcomed thousands of decampees from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), following the passing of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
These new APGA members, made up of various support groups loyal to the late senator, said they were inspired to back Soludo’s re-election because of his shared vision for Anambra’s growth and development.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Soludo expressed sadness over Ubah’s untimely death and revealed that they had spoken shortly before his passing about working together for the upcoming election. He hinted at plans to immortalize the senator in recognition of his contributions.
Welcoming the supporters, Soludo said:
“I welcome you to APGA, the home of every true Anambra person. In APGA, all members are equal—your commitment, not your years in the party, is what matters most.”
He recalled his long-standing relationship with Ubah, which began during his tenure as Central Bank Governor. He noted that Ubah had earlier contested under the Labour Party before joining APGA, showing his consistent alignment with the party’s ideals.
Kamen Chuks Ogbonna, who led the decamping members, called for unity, urging existing APGA members to see them as partners, not rivals.
He declared:
“I speak as a vessel of a legacy—Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s legacy. We are here to work for progress and help re-elect Governor Soludo, whose leadership is making a real difference.”
Ogbonna also praised Soludo’s bold fight against insecurity, particularly his clampdown on fake native doctors, which has since influenced policy changes in other southeastern states.
He assured the governor of their full support in the upcoming election, calling it a mission to preserve the legacy of both Soludo’s governance and Ubah’s political vision.
