Tragedy Strikes Jarma UK Academy
A fire outbreak on Thursday evening wreaked havoc at Jarma UK Academy in Sokoto State — a school dedicated to educating orphans displaced by Boko Haram insurgency.
The incident led to the destruction of key parts of the school including students’ hostels, administrative offices, and a computer lab.
Government Officials Assess Damage
In response to the tragedy, a delegation from the Sokoto State Government, led by Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, visited the scene to assess the damage.
He was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Aminu Haliru Dikko, and the State Attorney-General, Nasiru Mohammed Binji.
What Was Lost
The fire, whose cause remains unknown, gutted several parts of the school building including the Principal’s office, Vice Principal’s office, and staff rooms. Personal belongings such as mattresses, clothing, and study materials were completely destroyed.
No Lives Lost, Says Government
Speaking to the press, SSG Muhammad Bello Sifawa expressed deep sympathy with the management of the academy on behalf of the government.
He offered thanks to Almighty Allah for the absence of casualties. “We are grateful that no life was lost and no student was injured,” he said.
About Jarma UK Academy
Founded in 2018 by philanthropist Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo (Jarman Sokoto), the school provides a safe haven for orphans from Borno and Yobe States, who were affected by Boko Haram violence.
The Academy combines western and Islamic education, along with entrepreneurial training, to empower these children for a better future.
