A Kaduna State police officer, Hadaina Hussaini Dan-Taki, has stirred controversy with a disturbing statement threatening reprisal attacks on southerners living in northern Nigeria.
His comments came in response to the tragic killing of 16 northerners in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The victims, reportedly hunters from Kano, were ambushed while traveling for Sallah celebrations.
Their vehicle was searched, weapons were allegedly found, and they were subsequently lynched by an angry mob—an incident that has sparked widespread condemnation.
In a now-restricted Facebook post, Dan-Taki vowed that northerners would retaliate. “I swear to Almighty God, we must do something for you guys.
Have you forgotten all your brothers that are living here in the North? Mark my words, after one week, you shall see the result,” he wrote.
As backlash mounted, Dan-Taki changed his first name and restricted access to his Facebook profile, making it difficult for users to view his posts.
Authorities Step In
The controversial statement quickly caught the attention of social media users, with an X user, #UcheDIgboezeson, tagging Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urging action.
In response, Adejobi acknowledged the post, stating, “Noted for necessary action. Thanks.”
Meanwhile, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo confirmed that 14 suspects had been arrested in connection with the killings. The suspects have been transferred to Abuja for further investigation.
Governor Okpebholo strongly condemned the attack, labeling it “unacceptable,” and assured that all those involved would face the full force of the law.
As tensions rise, authorities are urging for calm and swift justice to prevent further escalations.
