Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a stern warning to the traditional leaders of Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin-Osun, communities that have been marred by recurring violence.
Last week, he relaxed the curfew from 24 to 17 hours as a humanitarian gesture, but fresh reports of impending attacks have forced him to take a harder stance.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke acknowledged the festive spirit of the Sallah celebrations while stressing that any attempt to exploit the relaxed curfew for renewed violence would be met with strict action.
The security agencies have been instructed to intensify surveillance and interrogate key figures suspected of fueling the conflict.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and any sign of renewed violence will prompt us to reinstate the full 24-hour curfew.
Moreover, I am not hesitating to remove from office any traditional ruler found to be responsible for the recurring unrest,” Rasheed stated.
The governor’s message was clear: the peace agreements signed by local leaders are not to be taken lightly. He urged the monarchs to call their subjects to order, emphasizing that the government’s patience has limits.
Governor Adeleke’s decisive stance reflects his commitment to restoring calm and accountability in crisis-prone areas.
As the situation unfolds, the coming days will reveal whether local leadership can steer their communities back to peace—or if more drastic measures will be necessary.
