Ibadan – Residents of 10 communities near the Odogbo Cantonment of the Nigerian Army have raised concerns over their safety after stray bullets from a military shooting range hit a woman and at least 15 houses.

Calls for Relocation of Shooting Range

Following the incident, the affected residents have urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and direct the relocation of the shooting range to a safer area.

The communities impacted include Omilabu Zones 1, 2, 3, Omilabu Mainstream, Oluseyi, Idi-Omo, Anilelerin, Dominion Estate, and Ajobo, among others.

Residents’ Plea for Government Action

A group of community representatives, including Prince Ijeru, Mr. Adekunle Taiwo, Mrs. Odekunle, Mr. Qozeem Alayo, Mr. Abdurauf, and Iya Eleedu, expressed frustration, stating that they have been calling for government intervention since 2017 without any response.

Unlike previous exercises where residents received prior notice, this latest military shooting drill allegedly began without warning on March 17, 2025.

Casualties and Damage

• A woman was hit by a stray bullet while in her shop and was rushed to the Military Hospital in the barracks.
• At least 15 houses sustained damage from stray bullets.
• The affected communities are home to an estimated 5,000 residents.
