The UK government has announced an increase in passport application fees, set to take effect from April 10, 2025.
These changes, pending parliamentary approval, will affect both online and paper applications for adults and children.
According to the UK Home Office, the revised fees apply to both domestic and overseas applications. For standard online applications within the UK, the cost for adults will rise from £88.50 to £94.50, while children’s fees will increase from £57.50 to £61.50.
Postal applications will also see a hike, with adult fees increasing from £100 to £107 and children’s fees rising from £69 to £74.
The Premium Service, which provides same-day passport issuance, will also become more expensive. The fee for adults will go up from £207.50 to £222, while children’s fees will increase from £176.50 to £189.
For those applying from abroad, standard online application fees will rise from £101 to £108 for adults and from £65.50 to £70 for children.
Paper applications will also cost more, with adult fees increasing from £112.50 to £120.50 and children’s fees rising from £77 to £82.50.
The UK Home Office clarified that these fee adjustments are aimed at ensuring the passport system remains self-sustaining without relying on public tax funds.
The fees contribute to the costs of processing applications, providing consular support for UK citizens abroad, and maintaining border security.
In 2024, 99.7% of standard applications were processed within three weeks, provided there were no additional requirements.
UK authorities advise applicants to submit their requests well in advance to avoid delays.
