Tinubu Blames Fubara for Rivers Pipeline Explosion, Declares State of Emergency

Political Tension Deepens as President Reacts to Rivers Crisis

The political crisis in Rivers State has taken a new turn as President Bola Tinubu holds Governor Siminalayi Fubara responsible for the recent pipeline explosion and worsening security situation in the state.

During a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, Tinubu expressed frustration over the prolonged political turmoil, accusing Fubara of failing to rebuild the demolished State Assembly complex for over 15 months.

He emphasized that despite interventions from his office and other stakeholders, peace has remained elusive in the state.

Security Concerns and Pipeline Vandalism

The President revealed that intelligence reports confirmed a surge in pipeline vandalism by militants, yet the state government has taken no visible action to curb the threat.

“Between yesterday and today, there have been disturbing reports of pipeline vandalism, yet no action has been taken by the governor to address the situation,” Tinubu stated.

In response, he directed security agencies to take swift action to safeguard lives, properties, and the state’s critical oil infrastructure.

State of Emergency Declared in Rivers State

Citing the collapse of the legislative arm of government as a major concern, President Tinubu officially declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.

To restore order, he appointed Retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to take over the administrative functions of the state.

Mixed Reactions Trail Tinubu’s Decision

This decision has sparked debates across political circles. While some believe it is a necessary move to restore peace and stability, others see it as a strategic political intervention.

What do you think about this development? Will the state of emergency bring lasting peace to Rivers, or will it escalate political tensions further?
