The Kwara State government has officially revoked all 2024 billboard and signage licenses as part of a broader effort to regulate outdoor advertising and maintain a cleaner, more organized environment.

Enforcement Kicks Off This Week

According to Ibrahim Garba, Secretary of the State Task Force on Illegal Billboards and Signages, authorities have already started identifying unauthorized billboards, posters, and banners across Ilorin and other urban centers.

“Identification is ongoing, and enforcement will commence this week,” Garba confirmed in a statement on Sunday, March 16, 2025.

Why the Government is Taking This Action

This initiative aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s urban renewal program, which aims to enhance Kwara’s visual appeal by removing cluttered and illegal advertisements.

Garba also announced a temporary suspension of new billboard registrations and license renewals, stating:

“No new applications or renewals will be processed until further notice. We are working on a new regulatory framework for outdoor advertising.”

What This Means for Advertisers

Businesses and individuals with expired or unauthorized billboard licenses are advised to comply immediately or face forced removal of their advertisements.

With this move, the Kwara State government hopes to create a well-structured outdoor advertising system while improving the state’s overall aesthetics.
