A devastating fire tore through Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Wednesday, reducing properties worth millions of Naira to ashes.
Fire Breaks Out at Midnight
The inferno reportedly started around midnight, catching traders and residents off guard.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, stating that emergency responders were still battling the flames by morning.
Swift Response from Firefighters and Private Firms
In a brief statement, Akinyinka acknowledged the support of private organizations, including SWEETCO and Sumal, for deploying their trucks and personnel to assist in firefighting efforts.
“Men are currently working at Aleshinloye Market. We appreciate SWEETCO and Sumal for their immediate response,” he said.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are yet to provide a full assessment of the damage.
