Lagos Assembly Crisis: Rhodes-Vivour Condemns Forceful Takeover, Calls for Political Reform

The Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), has strongly condemned the forceful takeover of the Lagos State House of Assembly, describing it as a dangerous assault on democracy and the rule of law.

Rhodes-Vivour expressed deep concern over the growing culture of political intimidation, warning that such actions undermine governance and set a troubling precedent for the future.

“What we witnessed at the House of Assembly is part of a disturbing pattern where force is prioritized over due process.

This erodes public trust and weakens the democratic values that should uphold the rule of law,” he stated.

He accused the ruling party of promoting thuggery over ideas, arguing that Lagos politics has long been dominated by coercion rather than conviction.

The former governorship candidate urged Lagosians to take the crisis as a wake-up call ahead of future elections, emphasizing that the quality of democracy depends on electing leaders with integrity, competence, and a genuine commitment to public service.

“Lagosians deserve leaders who see public office as a sacred trust, not a tool for personal gain.

It’s time to prioritize character over party affiliation,” he added.

As political tensions rise, all eyes remain on the Lagos Assembly to see how the situation unfolds.
