Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has launched an investigation into the recent violent clashes in Egbedi town, where seven people were reportedly injured.
According to Oba Muideen Azeez, the Elegbedi of Egbedi, the attacks happened on two different days.
On Wednesday, two residents suffered machete wounds, while on Thursday, five others sustained gunshot injuries. The violence allegedly involved individuals from Ede.
In response, Governor Adeleke directed the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and his Special Adviser on Security Matters to investigate the incident and restore peace.
His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, assured Egbedi residents of the government’s commitment to their safety.
The governor strongly denied any political involvement in the crisis, stating, “I have no gun-wielding appointee.
I didn’t send anybody to foment a communal crisis. We will get to the root of the matter.”
A viral video on social media showed armed men near a vehicle, with unseen individuals shouting accusations. The footage also captured gunshots as the men left the scene.
Kazeem Oriade, a governor’s aide accused of involvement, claimed he was attacked while traveling through Egbedi.
He alleged that youths from the community shot at his vehicle, injuring him and some of his aides, prompting a confrontation.
The state government’s investigation aims to uncover the truth behind the incident and prevent further violence.
