Lagos Speaker Meranda Denies Security Restoration, Calls Out Police Commissioner

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, has refuted claims that her security detail has been fully reinstated, contradicting the statement made by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh.

Meranda, who spoke to journalists after a court hearing on a case filed by former Speaker Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, revealed that despite assurances, she still lacks the full security protection she is entitled to.

“I Only Have Three or Four Policemen Instead of 18” – Meranda

Clearing the air, Meranda explained that her security detail is far from adequate.

“I have my people with me and God is with me,” she said. “But as of this morning, I only have three or four policemen.

Normally, I should have 12 police officers, four DSS operatives, and two anti-bomb specialists, yet they have not been restored.”

Obasa’s Assembly Invasion Sparks Outrage

Speaking on Obasa’s dramatic presence at the Assembly the previous day, Meranda admitted he had a right to visit but strongly criticized his approach.

“He is still a member of the House, so he can come anytime. But breaking into my office? That is a serious issue,” she remarked.

She also dismissed Obasa’s recent plenary session as a mere act of drama, saying,

“In our job, we require a quorum. Sitting with just three or four members is nothing but theatrics—a show of shame.”

Will Obasa Face Disciplinary Action?

When asked if any disciplinary measures would be taken against Obasa, Meranda remained reserved, stating,

“When we get to that bridge, we will cross it.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Assembly remained under tight security, with policemen, civil defense officers, and Obasa’s supporters stationed around the premises.
