Kwara State Introduces Two New Ministries to Boost Development

In a bid to enhance governance efficiency and meet the growing developmental needs of the state, the Kwara State Executive Council has approved the creation of two new ministries—the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Livestock Development.

The decision was reached during a cabinet meeting presided over by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, marking a strategic move to improve coordination and service delivery in key sectors.

Strengthening Infrastructure and Agriculture

The newly established Ministry of Transportation was carved out from the existing Ministry of Works and Transport to ensure better planning, regulation, and development of the state’s transport system.

This aims to address challenges in public transportation, road safety, and urban mobility.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Livestock Development is focused on boosting food security and supporting large-scale livestock farming across the state’s 16 local government areas.

It will provide critical support to farmers, herders, processors, and distributors along the livestock value chain.

Commissioner-Nominees Await Approval

Following this development, Governor AbdulRazaq has nominated two individuals for commissioner roles in the new ministries. They are:

  • Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the current Senior Special Assistant on Community Development
  • Mariam Nnafatima Imam, the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

Their names have been forwarded to the State House of Assembly for screening and approval.

Speaking on the new ministries, Commissioner for Communications, Mrs. Bola Olukoju, emphasized that this move is a significant step toward enhancing governance, strengthening the agricultural sector, and improving transportation infrastructure in the state.

With this restructuring, Kwara State is positioning itself for greater economic growth and sustainable development, ensuring that key sectors receive the attention they deserve.
