The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended two suspects for impersonating civil defence personnel and extorting government officials.
In a statement on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, identified the suspects as Muhammad Sarari, 43, from Goron Dutse in Dala Local Government, and Madaki Zaharaddeen, 32, from Hotoro in Nassarawa Local Government.
“The suspects have been impersonating NSCDC officers, storming ministries and agencies in Kano to intimidate and extort top government officials,” Abdullahi revealed.
Their scheme was exposed when they entered a well-known television station in Kano, attempting to threaten a senior management staff for money.
However, NSCDC personnel from the Tarauni Divisional Office caught them in the act and took them into custody.
During the investigation, one of the suspects was found with a fake NSCDC identity card and an inner uniform bearing the Corps’ logo. Both suspects later confessed to the crime.
The NSCDC has concluded its investigation and plans to charge them with impersonation, conspiracy, intimidation, and extortion.
