A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed nine lives, leaving three others injured in the early hours of Monday, February 24, 2025.
The crash, which happened around Ayetoro at about 5:30 AM, involved a Toyota bus (UYY165ZY) and a stationary truck (DKA244XC).
How the Tragic Crash Happened
According to the Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Florence Okpe, the bus driver lost control due to excessive speed and fatigue, ramming into the parked truck.
“A total of 13 people were involved—10 men and 3 women. Sadly, 9 died (6 men, 3 women), while 3 others sustained injuries,” Okpe stated.
Rescue Efforts and Authorities’ Response
Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, while the deceased were taken to Idera Morgue, Sagamu.
The FRSC Sector Commander expressed deep concern over drivers’ failure to adhere to speed limits and the 15-minute rest rule after four hours of driving.
He urged motorists to drive responsibly to prevent further loss of lives.
