DHQ Urges Nigerians to Disregard Allegations About Military Visa Denials
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has urged Nigerians to disregard “malicious allegations” surrounding the recent visa denials for Nigerian military personnel who were scheduled to attend the Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada.

In a statement issued on Monday, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, called on Nigerians to continue supporting the armed forces as they work towards enhancing national security and improving the welfare of those who serve.

Military’s Participation in Invictus Games

Gusau explained that the Nigerian military had received an invitation to participate in the Invictus Games, a competition for wounded and injured servicemen.

The Nigerian team was composed of three officers and 21 players, along with a physiotherapist. The Invictus Games Foundation arranged for the team’s accommodation and food, just like it did for other participating nations.

Despite efforts to ensure all members of the team could travel, only 14 members, excluding the team leader, captain, and physiotherapist, were granted visas.

Tragically, seven athletes were denied visas, and this prevented them from competing.

Team’s Achievements and Setbacks

Despite these setbacks, Gusau expressed pride in the team’s performance, stating that Nigeria won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the games.

The team’s outstanding achievements helped put Nigeria and Africa on the global map of the Invictus Games.

Gusau also emphasized the importance of the Chief of Defence Staff’s participation at the event, noting that it would have brought additional mental strength to the troops.

He acknowledged the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, for his efforts to boost morale and his ongoing work on the Invictus Foundation Centre in Africa, aimed at providing care and mental healing to wounded military personnel.

The DHQ stressed the importance of accurate information and called on the public to stand behind the military, especially those who risk their lives to protect the nation.
