As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general election, the Labour Party (LP) National Chairman, Julius Abure, has declared that the party remains committed to helping the South-East achieve its presidential ambition.
Speaking at a South-East LP rally in Abuja, Abure emphasized that the Igbos are industrious, hardworking, and fearless, adding that the party has no regrets about zoning its 2023 presidential ticket to the region.
Labour Party’s Commitment to the South-East
Abure acknowledged that, despite the loss of LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to President Bola Tinubu, the party remains dedicated to supporting the South-East’s push for national leadership.
“Before the 2023 general election, I mistakenly believed that the South-East was not united. However, after Peter Obi joined the Labour Party, I saw firsthand how united, hardworking, and fearless the Igbos are.”
“We boldly and courageously gave our presidential ticket to the South-East in 2023, and we stand by that decision. However, the region must strategize and strengthen alliances with other parts of Nigeria to increase its chances in 2027.”
South-East Must Build Stronger Alliances
While expressing LP’s unwavering support, Abure urged South-East leaders to form strategic political alliances that would make their 2027 presidential bid more viable.
“The Igbos need to go back to the drawing board and work towards better alignment with other regions. The Labour Party is still ready and willing to support them in their ambition to lead Nigeria.”
With political discussions heating up ahead of the 2027 elections, Abure’s remarks signal that Labour Party remains a key player in the South-East’s political aspirations.
