A civil society organization, the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), has called for an independent investigation into allegations of kidnapping, extortion, and abuse of power by members of the Enugu State Police Command.
The group has urged the Police Service Commission (PSC) to intervene following shocking claims made by a businessman, Mr. Olu Agwu.
According to reports, Agwu was abducted in Abia State, blindfolded, and taken to the Enugu State anti-kidnapping unit.
There, he was allegedly subjected to intimidation and false accusations of being linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Allegations of a ₦62 Million Extortion Scheme
Reports further revealed that Agwu was forced to pay a staggering ₦62 million for his release.
Allegedly, part of this extorted sum was meant for senior police officers, including the chairman of the Police Service Commission.
RULAAC has emphasized the need for accountability and transparency within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), urging authorities to take swift action to address these serious allegations.
With growing public outcry over police misconduct, the call for an independent investigation highlights the urgent need for justice and reforms in law enforcement agencies.
