MTN Apologizes to Customers Over Sudden 200% Data Price Hike

“Forgive and Forget,” MTN Tells Angry Subscribers
Nigerian telecom giant MTN has issued a heartfelt apology to its customers after sparking outrage with a sudden 200% increase in the price of its popular 15GB data bundle.

The unexpected price change saw the cost of the weekly 15GB plan jump from N2,000 to N6,000, leaving many subscribers frustrated and voicing their displeasure on social media.

In response, MTN took to social media on Thursday, using a casual and conversational tone to acknowledge the backlash and attempt to mend its relationship with customers.

MTN’s Apology: “We Don Cast, Please Forgive Us”

MTN admitted its mistake, saying:

“To our 15GB digital bundle lovers, we know you’re vexed. Waking up to a 200% price increase was not what you expected. We could give reasons, but omo, all that one na story. We don cast. We get it and admit it—this was a mistake.”

They went further to plead with customers to “forgive and forget”, adding:

“In this love season, don’t stay angry with us. Please forgive and forget. You matter die, and we will never stop showing you how much. Let’s continue our relationship. Thank you for your understanding.”

Other Networks May Follow Suit

As of now, only MTN has implemented the price increase, but sources suggest that Airtel and Globacom might follow soon. This follows the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) approval of a 50% tariff increase in January.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the hike and is calling for an immediate reversal of the new pricing structure.
