Legal Team Declares End to Judicial Bias in His Case
The legal team representing Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has stated that he is prepared to challenge any court ruling that violates the rule of law in his ongoing trial.
This follows the recent decision by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to indefinitely adjourn his trial after Kanu insisted that she could no longer preside over his case due to a previous recusal.
Kanu’s Stand Against Judicial Bias
In a statement on Wednesday, Aloy Ejimakor, head of Kanu’s legal team, revealed that Kanu had instructed them to make it clear that the era of institutional bias in his case was over.
“He is ready to challenge any court that does not adhere to the rule of law,” Ejimakor stated, adding that most rulings on Kanu’s case in Abuja had been marked by blatant unconstitutionality, contrary to Section 36 of the Nigerian Constitution, which demands judicial independence and impartiality.
Supreme Court Ruling and Recusal Issues
Ejimakor further argued that the Supreme Court’s finding that Justice Nyako was biased in revoking Kanu’s bail should have permanently disqualified her from the case.
However, despite stepping down, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, reassigned the case to her, which Kanu’s legal team considers a serious breach of the law.
“Once a judge recuses themselves, they lose jurisdiction over the case,” Ejimakor explained, rejecting claims that the trial had been adjourned indefinitely.

Kanu’s legal team remains firm in its position, stating that any further judicial proceedings against him must comply strictly with legal principles.
Meanwhile, his supporters and legal representatives continue to push for a fair trial, free from political and institutional interference.
