Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has downplayed the idea of deep political animosities, saying they are mostly for public entertainment.
Speaking at his 60th birthday thanksgiving service at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Isan Ekiti, Fayemi emphasized that politicians are not true enemies, despite what is often portrayed in the media.
“Most of what you see on social media is just drama for your entertainment,” he said.
Fayemi highlighted his close relationships with other political figures, such as former Governor Segun Oni, who attended the event, and ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose, who he said would have also been there if present.
The former governor stressed that Ekiti politicians, regardless of party affiliations, share a common vision for the state and should not let political differences divide them.
“We may belong to different political parties, but we are all members of one party—the ‘Ekiti Progressive Party.’ Our goal is to move the state forward together.”
Reflecting on his political journey, Fayemi expressed gratitude for reaching this milestone, acknowledging the grace of God and the cordial relationship he shares with Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
During the event, President Bola Tinubu also praised Fayemi for his contributions to Nigerian politics, particularly his role in the 2013 APC merger.
The celebration was attended by several dignitaries, including former Governor Segun Oni, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, and Ekiti State House Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye.
