Niger Assembly Demands Urgent Action as Bandits Kill 2, Abduct 122 in Rafi

In a shocking turn of events, bandits have struck again in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, killing two individuals and abducting 122 others.

The alarming situation was raised during a plenary session by Hon. Zubairu Ismail Zannah, who represents Rafi Constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly.

Hon. Zannah revealed that within just one month, several communities—including Pandogari, Wowo, Gidigori, Ringa, and Kawu—have been severely affected.

Residents have been forced to flee their homes, farmlands have been destroyed, and economic hardship has worsened due to the persistent attacks.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Abdulmalik Bala Yakubu of Katcha Constituency stressed the urgent need for government intervention.

The Assembly called on the executive arm to collaborate with Kaduna State authorities to tackle the increasing banditry, especially along the border areas between the two states.

The lawmakers pointed out that ongoing military operations against bandits in Kaduna have forced them to relocate to Niger State, further escalating insecurity in Rafi, Munya, and Shiroro local government areas.

To address the crisis, they urged the federal government to increase military presence, deploy security forces along key routes, and strengthen inter-state cooperation.

As banditry continues to threaten lives and livelihoods, Niger State residents are calling for swift and decisive action to restore peace and security.
