Ogun State Builds 1,474 Classrooms, Enhances Educational Infrastructure

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has reaffirmed the Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s commitment to improving education in the state.

Speaking at a press briefing, he announced that 1,474 classrooms have been constructed and renovated across the state, with an additional 332 projects currently in progress.

To further enhance learning conditions, the government has supplied:

8,800 two-seater desks and benches for public primary schools

3,900 two-seater desks and benches for junior secondary schools

2,395 pieces of teachers’ furniture for both primary and secondary schools

Arigbabu also highlighted the recruitment of 3,000 new teachers to bridge staffing gaps and the abolition of school fees, which has led to increased enrollment and a reduction in the number of out-of-school children.

Revamping Technical and Higher Education

To improve vocational training, all eight government-owned technical colleges are undergoing rehabilitation, transforming them into world-class institutions.

Additionally, the state has ensured the regular payment of subventions to tertiary institutions and approved an N200 million annual intervention fund for schools not covered by TETFund.

Introduction of Smart Classrooms

A significant milestone in Ogun’s education reform is the introduction of smart classrooms across secondary schools in all 20 local government areas.

These modern classrooms are designed to create a conducive learning environment with advanced teaching tools.

To further ease congestion, the government is constructing 12 mega classrooms, each accommodating 900 students, distributed across the state’s four divisions.

The first phase of the smart classroom project includes 72 secondary schools, especially flagship institutions, equipped with modern teaching aids.
