In a shocking announcement on February 5, 2025, President Donald Trump revealed an ambitious plan to take control of the Gaza Strip.
His proposal includes relocating Palestinians to other countries, even if they don’t wish to leave, and transforming Gaza into what he called “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, with Trump stating that the US would “own” Gaza and handle its reconstruction.
He envisioned a transformation of the war-torn area into a thriving, luxurious destination by clearing rubble and unexploded bombs and initiating economic redevelopment.
Trump also mentioned that the plan had support from the “highest leadership” in the Middle East.
However, it was met with strong opposition from Egypt, Jordan, and Palestinian authorities, who rejected the idea of resettling Gaza’s population.
In his proposal, Trump referred to Gaza as a place that should not be rebuilt for its current inhabitants but rather turned into a new environment, free from the historical challenges of the region.
This plan has raised alarm in Palestinian communities, including Gaza residents who rejected Trump’s notion, calling it offensive.
The idea of moving over two million Palestinians from Gaza is seen as unrealistic and unjust.
Trump’s plan also indicated the possibility of US military intervention if necessary, though the specifics of how the takeover would occur were unclear.
His comments on Gaza as “better than Monaco” reflect his real estate-focused approach to the region.
Prime Minister Netanyahu endorsed Trump’s idea, calling it “a historical change” and emphasizing its potential significance for Israel’s future.
Netanyahu, however, also suggested that Israel may continue hostilities with Hamas and other regional adversaries if necessary, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iran.
Despite the support from Netanyahu, Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, have rejected Trump’s suggestion unless a Palestinian state is established.
This plan is expected to face fierce opposition from the Palestinian people and Middle Eastern leaders, making its implementation highly uncertain.
