Death Toll Rises to 15 in Ebonyi Community Attack

The death toll from the violent attack on Amagu, Amaokwe, and Umunesha villages in the Nkalaha community, Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has risen to 15.

The massacre, allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen, has left many residents unaccounted for, with fears that more bodies may still be discovered.

More Victims Discovered as Fear Grips Community

The attack, which occurred early Sunday morning, initially claimed 10 lives, with homes set ablaze.

However, as search efforts intensified, more bodies were found in nearby bushes, and several residents remain missing.

Government Demands Justice, Orders 24-Hour Manhunt

Visiting the devastated community on Tuesday, Ebonyi State Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Obila, issued a 24-hour ultimatum to security forces to track down and arrest the killers.

> “This is a horrific and senseless massacre. These were young lives with families, dreams, and futures. No government can stand by while its citizens are slaughtered like this,” she stated.

Obila, representing Governor Francis Nwifuru, urged the community to maintain peace and called for a three-day fasting and prayer session for divine intervention.

Traditional Ruler Raises Concerns Over Ongoing Conflict

The traditional ruler of Nkalaha, Igwe Thompson Ebe, revealed that tensions between the Agila community in Benue State and Fulani herdsmen had been brewing since January 20, 2025.

> “We had engaged in peace talks and even made some arrests to prevent violence. Yet, despite our efforts, this tragic attack still happened,” he lamented.

The security agencies have promised swift action, but residents remain fearful of further attacks if immediate measures are not taken.
