Kaduna Electric Refutes Claims of Sacking 900 Employees

The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) has denied reports that it terminated the employment of 900 staff members, clarifying that the recent industrial action was tied to a staff restructuring initiative rather than mass layoffs.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the company’s Corporate Affairs Head, Abdullahi Abdulazeez, dismissed widespread speculation, stating that the reports were inaccurate and misleading.

Restructuring for Sustainability

According to Kaduna Electric, the ongoing restructuring process aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company in response to operational and financial challenges.

The statement also clarified that only employees under the Independent System Operator (ISO), a unit within the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), were affected by the decision.

Abdulazeez emphasized that while the move was challenging, it was necessary to align the workforce with current market realities, improve operational efficiency, and enhance service delivery.

Commitment to Resolving Power Outages

Addressing customer concerns, Kaduna Electric acknowledged the prolonged power outage that left some areas without electricity for over 20 hours.

The company assured the public that it is actively working to resolve labour disputes amicably and restore normal power supply as soon as possible.

Appreciation for Security Agencies

The management expressed gratitude to security agencies for ensuring the safety of personnel and facilities during the strike.

Kaduna Electric reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable electricity services and apologized for any inconveniences caused by recent disruptions.

“Kaduna Electric remains focused on overcoming its challenges and emerging stronger to serve customers and stakeholders better,” the statement concluded.
