FG Begins Toll Collection on Abuja-Makurdi Expressway: What It Means for Road Users

The Federal Government has announced the commencement of toll collection on the Abuja-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Expressway, starting this Tuesday.

The road, constructed under the Highways Development and Management Initiative (HDMI) Phase II Value Added Concession (VAC), will now have multiple tolling points.

The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, is expected to inaugurate the tolling operation at Garaku Toll Station, located at KM 32 along the Keffi-Akwanga section of the expressway.

Concerns Over Tolling and Transport Costs

The expressway features four toll stations, a development that has raised concerns among road users and transport operators about potential increases in transportation fares.

Many have expressed worries about the economic impact of tolling on daily commuters and businesses.

The Federal Government, however, maintains that the tolling initiative is part of its broader strategy to fund road maintenance and improve highway infrastructure across the country.
