The Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the incident, stating that only two passengers survived and are currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital.

Excessive Speeding and Traffic Violations Blamed

According to Ibitoye, the fatal collision was caused by reckless driving, excessive speed, and traffic violations, which resulted in a head-on crash between two vehicles at Mile 49 on the expressway.

> “Out of 30 passengers, 28 lost their lives in this tragic accident due to reckless driving. Their remains have been taken to the General Hospital in Ore, while the survivors are undergoing treatment,” he said.

FRSC Urges Drivers and Passengers to Prioritize Safety

The FRSC commander expressed concern over the rising number of road accidents caused by speeding and urged drivers to exercise patience to prevent such tragedies.

> “Passengers must also play a role in ensuring safety by cautioning reckless drivers or reporting them to FRSC officers on duty.”

He further assured that a detailed investigation would be conducted to uncover more information about the crash.
