The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has intensified its enforcement drive, impounding 125 commercial buses (Danfo) and 48 private vehicles for traffic violations, including illegal parking and road obstruction, in Lagos Island.
The operation, aimed at restoring order and ensuring smooth vehicular movement, targeted notorious traffic hotspots such as Idumota, Ijaye Street, Martins, Ereko, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tom Jones, Ebute-Ero, Oyingbo, Ijora, Adeniji Adele, and Iddo.
Crackdown on Reckless Driving and Unauthorized Garages
According to LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the enforcement aligns with the directive of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, as part of the state government’s efforts to eliminate traffic bottlenecks and reckless road behavior.
A significant number of violators were caught engaging in dangerous driving practices, including:
✅ Driving against traffic (one-way violations)
✅ Illegal U-turns and reckless reversing to pick passengers
✅ Operating unauthorized roadside garages causing gridlocks
These activities have led to multiple road accidents and unnecessary loss of lives, prompting LASTMA’s decisive action.
Lagos Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Traffic Discipline
Speaking on the operation, Bakare-Oki emphasized that the government will not tolerate indiscriminate parking, illegal transport hubs, and lawlessness on Lagos roads.
> “The state government remains resolute in its enforcement of traffic regulations. Illegal garages and reckless road obstructions remain a major challenge to seamless mobility in Lagos.
These strict enforcement measures serve as a clear warning that violations will no longer be overlooked.”
He further stressed that the ultimate goal is to create a safe, orderly, and efficient transport system for all road users in Lagos.

Many residents and business owners have commended LASTMA’s enforcement, noting its positive impact on easing congestion and improving commercial activities in the affected areas.
LASTMA also assured the public that this crackdown will be expanded to other traffic-prone areas across the state.
