Nigerians Abroad Making Waves

President Bola Tinubu has praised Nigerians in the diaspora for their remarkable achievements, saying their contributions to education, sports, health, and business continue to uplift the nation’s image.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu emphasized that the success stories of Nigerians abroad serve as an inspiration to the younger generation.

He made these remarks while receiving the Letters of Credence from several foreign envoys, including:

Pasquale Salvaggio, High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria

Dr. Julius F. Sandy, High Commissioner of Sierra Leone

Legesse Geremew Haile, Ambassador of Ethiopia

Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican

Canada Recognizes Nigerians’ Contributions

The Canadian High Commissioner, Pasquale Salvaggio, acknowledged the significant role Nigerians play in his country, noting that they excel in various sectors, including science and governance.

“For us, Nigeria is a key partner. You are the largest country in Africa, with one of the strongest economies. Nigerians in Canada are dynamic and responsible, and we want to strengthen our ties further,” he stated.

Canada is now seeking to expand its collaboration with Nigeria in vital sectors such as:

Oil and Gas

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

Agriculture

Salvaggio, who previously served in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, expressed optimism about future partnerships that would benefit both nations.

Sierra Leone and Ethiopia Strengthen Bilateral Relations

During a separate meeting with the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering development across West Africa.

He noted that Nigeria’s long-standing support for Sierra Leone has contributed to stability and economic growth in the region.

Similarly, in discussions with the Ethiopian Ambassador, Tinubu emphasized the need for unity and peace across Africa, stressing that security is essential for development.

Vatican’s Role in Education and Poverty Alleviation

In his meeting with the Vatican’s representative, Tinubu commended the Catholic Church for its contributions to education and social welfare in Nigeria.

“We value education, and the Catholic Church has played a significant role in reducing poverty through its initiatives,” he noted.

As Nigeria continues to strengthen its global partnerships, Tinubu’s recognition of Nigerians abroad underscores the country’s growing influence on the world stage.

With Canada looking to expand investments and other nations reinforcing their ties with Nigeria, the future holds promising opportunities for economic and social growth.
