The bustling Onitsha-Owerri Expressway became a scene of tragedy when a middle-aged man was brutally gunned down by unidentified assailants.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that investigations are underway to uncover the details behind this shocking incident.
Eyewitnesses Recall the Heartbreaking Scene
According to eyewitnesses, the attack took place on Thursday morning.
Armed men driving a Toyota Sienna vehicle ambushed the victim, shooting him in the stomach before fleeing the scene.
One witness, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared:
“The gunmen attacked the man, shot him, and abandoned him along the expressway.
Police operatives from the Ozubulu Division arrived the following day to remove the body.”
Police Seek Public Assistance
In an official statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that police operatives responded to a distress call in the early hours of January 23, 2025.
Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the victim, whose identity remains unknown.
SP Ikenga stated:
“Preliminary findings indicate the victim was attacked by suspected armed men who fled immediately.
We urge members of the public to assist us in identifying the victim or providing information that may aid our investigation.”
The victim’s body has been deposited at a morgue, and the police have assured the public that updates will follow as the investigation unfolds.
