A teacher in Ibadan, Oyo State, Adebayo Osayemi, has been sentenced to two years in prison with hard labor for stealing a phone and money totaling N237,000 from his employer.
The ruling was delivered at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Mapo by Magistrate Mrs. O.O. Latunji, who convicted Osayemi based on police evidence and his confession. The court also ruled out any option of a fine.
Case Summary
According to Inspector Oluseye Akinola, the theft occurred on January 13 at a nursery and primary school in Orita-Challenge, Ibadan.
Osayemi had observed the movements of the school proprietress, Funmilayo Adesinmi, before sneaking into her office while she was out.
Adesinmi’s daughter reportedly saw Osayemi entering the office, where he stole a Techno Smart 4 phone worth N95,000 and €20 (around N35,000).
Osayemi also transferred N82,000 and N25,000 from Adesinmi’s accounts to his own.
The crime was found to violate Section 390 (9) of the Oyo State Criminal Code Law, 2000.
