The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed the successful elimination of scores of terrorists and the destruction of their logistics hub in Alawa Forest, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
This significant achievement was part of the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma (AC OPFY).
According to Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, NAF’s Director of Public Relations, the operation, which took place on January 21, 2025, was guided by credible intelligence and thorough aerial surveillance.
These efforts revealed a large movement of armed terrorists into the forest, who were linked to violent activities, including two deadly Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on December 19, 2024, in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, which resulted in multiple civilian casualties.
In response, NAF launched a three-day air campaign, codenamed “Konan Daji,” to weaken the terrorists’ operations and make the forest uninhabitable.
Fighter jets carried out precise airstrikes, successfully neutralizing several armed fighters and destroying their logistics facility, as evidenced by multiple secondary explosions.
“The Nigerian Air Force, in collaboration with ground forces, is unwavering in its mission to sustain operational dominance in the region,” Akinboyewa stated.
“Efforts are ongoing to eradicate criminal elements from Alawa Forest and its surroundings, ensuring lasting peace and security for communities in Niger State and beyond.”
