The Amotekun Corps in Osun State has reiterated its reliance on the power of ‘African science’ as a vital tool in combating banditry and crime across the region.
Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Osogbo on January 22, 2025.
Mr. Omoyele emphasized that the founders of Amotekun integrated spiritual forces into the operational strategy of the Corps, acknowledging its effectiveness against bandits who often rely on charms and incantations.
Advocacy for Sophisticated Weapons
Despite the incorporation of spiritual methods, Omoyele stressed the need for Amotekun personnel to be equipped with advanced weapons to match the firepower of criminals.
He called on stakeholders in the security sector to grant the Corps access to sophisticated arms, ensuring a balance of force and improving their capacity to maintain law and order.
“We are not abandoning the use of spiritual forces; it is part of our system,” Omoyele stated. “However, we also need sophisticated weapons to combat the heavily armed criminals effectively.
With the support of Governor Ademola Adeleke, we are poised to recruit 1,000 new personnel and improve our logistics to boost operational efficiency.”
Emergency Centre Refurbishment
Omoyele also highlighted plans to refurbish a state-of-the-art emergency response centre.
Once operational, the facility will enhance crime monitoring across major cities in the state, providing better security coverage and coordination.
“We are battle-ready and will not allow criminals any level of freedom in Osun State,” Omoyele assured.
The Amotekun Corps continues to blend traditional and modern approaches to ensure the safety and security of residents in the state.
