In a bid to address teacher shortages and improve education standards, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved the recruitment of 3,000 teachers for junior and senior secondary schools.
This move is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to enhance learning outcomes and reduce the pupil-teacher ratio.
The announcement was made by Ali Gar, Project Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), during a sensitization meeting in Bauchi Local Government Area.
Details of the Recruitment Plan
Deployment:
2,000 teachers will be assigned to junior secondary schools.
1,000 teachers will be assigned to senior secondary schools.
Objective:
The initiative aims to reduce the pupil-teacher ratio and improve the quality of education statewide.
Recruitment Process:
Teachers will be hired from local communities to encourage grassroots participation and ensure effective monitoring.
Support for Adolescent Girls
As part of the AGILE project, Conditional Cash Transfers will be introduced to boost school attendance among girls, ensuring they stay in school and complete their education.
Benefits for 9,000 Girls:
N15,000 for registration fees.
N20,000 stipend for the first term.
N10,000 each for the second and third terms (attendance of at least 75% required).
Infrastructure Development and Monitoring
To support the initiative, ICT tools and skills acquisition resources have been procured. Community stakeholders have been urged to actively monitor the teachers and ensure the project’s success.

Mahmood Babama’aji, the Executive Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, praised the AGILE team for their dedication and assured residents of the initiative’s long-term benefits to education in the state.
