Opposition Lawmakers Applaud Azuta-Mbata’s Emergence as Ohanaeze Ndigbo President
The Opposition Lawmakers Coalition has extended their heartfelt congratulations to Senator John Azuta-Mbata on his selection as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization.
Azuta-Mbata, a former Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District, was elected on Friday during the selection process held at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu.
In a statement signed by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the coalition praised the historic nature of Azuta-Mbata’s emergence, noting that his leadership signifies a new chapter for Igbos.
The lawmakers urged him to leverage his position to foster unity, progress, and the emancipation of the Igbo people.
A Historic Milestone for Ohanaeze Ndigbo
The coalition described Azuta-Mbata’s leadership as a significant milestone, highlighting his experience as a senator from 1999 to 2007.
They emphasized that his emergence reflects the unity and aspirations of Igbos across Nigeria and beyond.
“We urge him to use this platform to build bridges for the emancipation of the Igbo race, ensuring they claim their rightful place in Nigeria’s national affairs,” the statement read.
Call for Unity and Progress
While acknowledging past efforts toward reconstruction and reconciliation of the Igbo nation, the lawmakers noted that more work is needed.
They called on Azuta-Mbata to utilize his lobbying skills to elevate the Igbo nation to greater national recognition.
“We are confident that his leadership will unite the Igbo people and drive progress. Congratulations, Senator John Azuta-Mbata! We pledge our full support as you lead Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide,” the coalition added.
