The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has officially addressed the ongoing leadership dispute within its Alumni Association.
The university’s management confirmed its recognition of the new executive committee led by Prof. Abdulrazaq Kilani, elected on August 24, 2024.
During a media briefing in Ilorin, the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, criticized Dr. Wale Fasakin for continuing to present himself as the association’s president, despite his tenure ending in 2021.
Akogun explained that a resolution by the association’s congress led to the establishment of a caretaker committee, which managed the association until the Kilani-led executive was elected.
He stated, “Although the university management prefers not to interfere in the alumni association’s internal matters, it cannot allow the unity within the association to be undermined by unnecessary conflicts.”
Akogun emphasized the importance of the Alumni Association to the university’s development and pledged that the management would continue to work toward fostering peace and unity within the association.
“The relevance of the association cannot be overstated. It holds immense potential to contribute positively to the university’s growth, and we are committed to ensuring harmony among its members,” he added.
UNILORIN’s management has called on all parties involved to prioritize the association’s collective goals over personal interests, encouraging collaboration for the university’s progress.
