Nigerian Troops Neutralize 34 Boko Haram Fighters in Fierce Borno Clash

Nigerian Troops Crush Boko Haram Fighters in Borno, Six Soldiers Lost

In a decisive military operation, Nigerian troops successfully eliminated 34 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters during an intense battle at Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

However, the clash came at a heavy cost, with six gallant soldiers losing their lives.

The Defence Headquarters made this announcement on Wednesday, detailing how the operation unfolded and emphasizing the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces to tackle insurgency and restore peace in the region.

The terrorists launched a surprise attack on January 4, 2025, attempting to avenge the recent deaths of their senior commanders. Riding on motorcycles and gun trucks, they targeted troops stationed in Sabon Gari Village.

However, the well-prepared troops, supported by reinforcements, swiftly countered the assault.

According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the terrorists were ambushed mid-attack, turning their plans into a devastating failure.

“The terrorists, attempting a revenge mission, were outsmarted and neutralized as soon as they initiated their assault,” the statement read.

Reinforcements comprising the Civilian Joint Taskforce, vigilantes, and hybrid forces played a crucial role in the operation.

Despite encountering an explosive device that injured the vigilante commander, the team arrived just in time to overpower the fleeing insurgents.

The air component of Operation Hadin Kai also delivered precise strikes, ensuring the terrorists had no escape route. This coordinated effort led to the recovery of 23 AK-47 rifles and over 200 rounds of ammunition, leaving the insurgents thoroughly defeated.

While the operation was a success, it wasn’t without sacrifice. Six brave soldiers paid the ultimate price during the confrontation.

The Defence Headquarters refrained from releasing their names, respecting the privacy of their families during this difficult time.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria deeply mourn the loss of our heroes while remaining steadfast in the mission to defeat terrorism,” the statement added.

This victory underscores the resilience and dedication of Nigeria’s Armed Forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

As efforts continue, citizens are reminded of the importance of unity and support for security personnel on the frontlines.
