A gas explosion in the Oroazi community of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has left 18 people injured, though miraculously, no lives were lost.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at a local gas refilling shop, where a technician was reportedly using a gas cylinder to repair a refrigerator while also attempting to refill it.
This dangerous combination led to the blast, severely damaging nearby buildings.
According to Rivers State Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the victims—ranging from residents to passers-by—suffered varying degrees of burns.
Thankfully, all those injured received immediate medical attention and are currently being treated at a local hospital.
Eyewitness Tamuno shared how the explosion caused other gas cylinders in the shop to detonate, making the situation even worse.
Among those hurt were a pregnant woman, four children, and a couple, underscoring the devastating impact of the explosion.
As the police continue their investigation, they have pledged to share their findings with the public.
For now, the community remains hopeful for the swift recovery of those affected.
