In a recent turn of events, the Lagos State Police have cleared up confusion surrounding the case of Ayomide Adeleye, a student accused of murder. The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) had reported that Ayomide had been released from custody, but the police have come forward to set the record straight.
Ayomide, a 200-level Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), was arrested in September 2024 for the brutal murder of Christianah Idowu, a fellow student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). After his court appearance in November, he was remanded at Ikoyi prison, awaiting further legal procedures.
Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin addressed the misinformation, explaining that another person with a similar name had been released earlier for a separate offense.
He reassured the public that Ayomide Adeleye, the murder suspect, remains in custody. Hundeyin criticized the reliance on unofficial sources, urging investigative bodies to seek accurate information directly from authorities to avoid spreading confusion.
