Tragic Murder of Retired Federal Works Controller in Kwara on New Year Day In a shocking incident, AbdulRazaq Ajani, a retired controller of Works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, was brutally murdered on New Year Day in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The 62-year-old, who had just returned from Offa, where he had celebrated the Christmas holidays with his family, was attacked in his home in the Aderoju area of Tanke.
Sources reveal that the attackers, who were seemingly tracking him, ambushed Ajani as he returned with his family.
At around 3 p.m., four young men, estimated to be between 18 and 22 years old, appeared in the area in a suspicious manner.
A review of CCTV footage from the scene showed two of them standing outside the gate of the residence, while the others entered the compound.
Inside, Ajani, who had noticed the intruders from one of the sitting rooms, rose to confront them.
Realizing the danger, he attempted to retreat and shut the door but was unable to do so in time.
The assailants quickly blocked him, and after a brief interaction, one of them began attacking Ajani with an axe, striking him multiple times on the head.
Despite his attempts to defend himself, the retired officer succumbed to the violent assault and was left lying face down in his own home.
The assailants, having completed their grisly task, fled the scene before the family could alert neighbors to the horror unfolding.
Neighbors, in shock and disbelief, rushed to the residence, only to find blood stains on the walls and the scene of the brutal killing. Ajani wife and children were present during the attack, which occurred just after their return from the holiday.
The police were soon at the scene, but by the time they arrived, the body had been evacuated.
Investigations into the crime are underway, with the Kwara State Police confirming the incident.
According to Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the Public Relations Officer for the Kwara Police Command, a full investigation is ongoing.
Adding to the mystery, it was discovered that the CCTV cameras at the main gate, which could have captured the attackers faces, had been removed long before the incident.
However, the cameras inside the house were still operational, providing vital footage of the tragic event.
Ajani, who had two wives, was reportedly with his younger wife and their children when the attack occurred.
His untimely death has left his family, friends, and the entire community in mourning.
Local residents have gathered to offer their condolences, and the community remains shaken by the brutality of the attack.
As investigations continue, many are left grappling with the question of why this tragic and senseless act was carried out, and who could have been behind such a heinous crime.
