Cross River State Partners with Rinehooke for $350 Million Railway Project to Boost Tourism

In a groundbreaking move to enhance tourism and regional development, Cross River State, in partnership with Rinehooke Limited, is advancing the ambitious $350 million Grand Litora Railway project. This transformative initiative aims to connect key cities within the state, offering a seamless transport system that will elevate both tourism and economic activities.

Mapping the Path to Progress

On December 20, 2024, a major milestone was achieved as the topographical mapping for the first 104 kilometers of the railway, spanning from Calabar to Ugep, was unveiled. This step sets the stage for a larger plan that will see the railway span 365 kilometers, with terminals in Calabar and Obudu and additional stops in Ugep, Ikom, and Ogoja.

Governor’s Vision for Connectivity

Governor Bassey Otu, who officiated the groundbreaking ceremony earlier in the year, underscored the importance of this project. “This railway is more than just infrastructure; it’s a bridge that connects the southern and northern parts of Cross River State, fostering unity, trade, and development,” he stated.

Revolutionizing Tourism and Economy

Rinehooke Investment’s CEO, Nelson Elemi, emphasized the railway’s transformative potential. According to Elemi, the project will not only improve transportation but also boost regional trade and tourism. Attractions such as the Tinapa Free Trade Zone and the Obudu Mountain Resort will become more accessible, drawing in both local and international visitors.

Benefits Beyond Transportation

Once completed, the Grand Litora Railway is expected to revolutionize transportation, making travel across the state faster and more convenient. It will also open doors for businesses, create jobs, and attract investments, making Cross River a hub of economic activity and sustainable tourism.

This strategic partnership between Cross River State and Rinehooke Limited reflects a bold commitment to providing world-class infrastructure while unlocking the state’s immense economic potential.
