The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has issued a bold ultimatum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to reconsider his administration’s policies, which many Nigerians deem unfavorable and harsh. The NNPP cautioned that if these policies are not reversed, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could face a significant defeat in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Kano, the NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, did not mince words as he addressed the media. He remarked, “With these anti-masses policies, Nigerians are fed up. If Tinubu does not change course, we, the people, will make the change ourselves through the ballot in 2027.”
Nigerians Deserve Better
Dungurawa expressed confidence in the NNPP’s rising popularity across Nigeria, highlighting the party’s readiness to replace the current administration. He added that Nigerians are increasingly rallying behind the NNPP, a party he described as a true alternative that prioritizes the welfare of ordinary citizens.
Reflecting on President Tinubu’s policy decisions since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Dungurawa criticized the government’s approach, labeling it “unfriendly” and “anti-people.” He lamented the harsh realities Nigerians have faced due to the removal of fuel subsidies, rising inflation, and other contentious policies.
NNPP’s Road to 2027
Dungurawa highlighted the NNPP’s extensive efforts to establish a nationwide presence, including setting up offices and party structures across all 36 states. He described these efforts as part of the party’s strategy to secure both state and federal leadership in the next elections.
The chairman praised Kano State’s NNPP-led government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, noting significant strides in infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and social initiatives. According to him, “Kano is a shining example of what a people-oriented government can achieve.”
Concerns Over Alleged Moves Towards a One-Party System
Dungurawa also raised alarms over allegations that the Federal Government might be plotting to establish a one-party state. He called on Nigerians to resist such attempts and urged the government to focus on policies that alleviate the struggles of the average citizen.
Kwankwaso Staying With NNPP
On rumors of NNPP’s leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, defecting to the APC, Dungurawa dismissed these claims as “cheap propaganda” meant to tarnish Kwankwaso’s image. He reaffirmed that the former Kano State governor remains committed to the NNPP’s vision for Nigeria.
