In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a 52-year-old man, Ademilua Oni, has been remanded in prison by an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State for the alleged murder of his 92-year-old mother, Comfort Oni.
The tragic incident occurred on December 15, 2024, at Iropora-Ekiti, located within the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti. According to the prosecution, Oni allegedly pushed his mother during a confrontation after she caught him attempting to steal. The push led to Comfort Oni falling, and she tragically died from the incident.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Elijah Adejare, stated that the actions of the defendant contravened Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. He further urged the court to keep the accused in prison until legal advice could be received from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Kehinde Awosika, ruled to remand the accused man in the correctional center, and the case has been adjourned to January 30, 2025, for further mention. The court did not take the plea of the defendant at this time.
This case has shocked many in the community, leaving residents mourning the tragic loss of a mother at the hands of her own son.
