Police Arrest Two for Allegedly Stealing Motorcycle in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with the theft of a Bajaj motorcycle valued at ₦1.3 million. The stolen motorcycle, with the registration number DGB 629 VC, belongs to a man identified as Francis Ayinde.

According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, the suspects, identified as Eje Benson (alias Kenny) and Ominiyi Austin, were arrested by officers of the Ago-Iwoye Police Division. The arrests followed a report made on December 26, 2024, by a concerned individual named Akinola Musa.

The Incident

The motorcycle was initially handed over to Benson in October 2024 under an agreement to use it for commercial purposes, with a repayment plan of ₦25,000 weekly. However, Benson later claimed that the motorcycle had been stolen from his residence.

Investigations revealed that Benson had allegedly colluded with his accomplice, Austin, to sell the motorcycle to one Emmanuel Nwosu at Ijebu-Ode for ₦800,000. The transaction was reportedly carried out using forged documents, including falsified phone numbers and signatures.

Benson subsequently fled to Benue State after paying Austin a ₦60,000 commission from the proceeds of the sale.

Arrest and Recovery

In the statement, SP Odutola disclosed:

> “The divisional police officer of Ago-Iwoye has cracked a case involving the theft of a Bajaj motorcycle by one Eje Benson, who fled to Benue State. He has since been arrested, and the stolen motorcycle has been recovered.”

She further explained that Musa, who had facilitated the motorcycle’s commercial use on behalf of its owner, reported the theft to the Ago-Iwoye police station.

Investigation in Progress

The suspects are currently in custody, and the recovered motorcycle has been secured by the police. The Crime Branch is actively investigating the matter to uncover further details.

SP Odutola assured the public that updates on the case will be provided as the investigation progresses.
