Kwara Governor Presents 2025 Budget, Prioritizing Housing, Roads, and Social Support
In a move aimed at further advancing the state’s development, Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has presented the 2025 budget with a clear focus on completing ongoing projects, kick-starting new ones, and enhancing social welfare programs. The total budget is set at N540.37 billion, with a significant portion—62.1%—allocated for capital projects, while 37.9% will be used for day-to-day operational expenses.
One of the most exciting announcements in the budget is the construction of 250 mass housing units, along with the development of inner roads for the state’s smart city project. The budget also prioritizes the completion of stadiums in Offa and Lafiagi, along with the construction of new roads across the state to improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods and services.
Governor Abdulrazaq highlighted that the budget would also fund the creation of a multi-story courthouse, the most advanced of its kind in the northern region, and the upgrade of the Metropolitan Square. His administration is focusing heavily on strengthening the social sector, with 32.5% of the budget dedicated to empowering youth and women, fighting poverty, and improving healthcare and education. A new university of education is also in the pipeline, alongside efforts to boost existing institutions.
The budget gives particular attention to the Ministry of Works and Transport, which will receive 17.51% of the budget to continue vital road construction and maintenance projects that will enhance the state’s infrastructure.
Reflecting on the accomplishments of the 2024 budget, the Governor pointed out key achievements, such as providing support to over 170,000 farmers, funding exams for more than 100,000 students, and offering free medical interventions to 15,000 vulnerable citizens. He also emphasized that his administration had significantly reduced the state’s debt.
With projections based on $75 per barrel for oil and a 6.4% GDP growth, the Governor expressed optimism about the state’s financial stability and the successful delivery of the 2025 budget. Funding will come from a mix of federal allocations, internal revenue, and other capital receipts.
